Memory Lane Monday

I’m trying to be consistent. Is it working so far?

Date:November 21, 2012

Location: Presidio Park, San Diego, CA

The day was quite sunny, visibility wasn’t that bad and if you’ve been in Presidio Park, you can view Point Loma, Cabrillo, and a bit of Sea World from the vista points.

It’s quiet a mission to get up the steep hill of the park if you don’t have a car but it is a well worth hike. The sun seemed to grow tired and start setting soon. As I laid under the trees and let time coast by, I had to take a shot (many were taken but you know a good shot from any other). The trees seemed to caress your personal space, observing your every move buy still keeping you from the beating sun.

I hope that this shot, “Arboreal Confinement”, will encourage you to take a trip to Presidio Park.

Memory Lane Monday

I went to get some prints done. I’m content with what I have produced! Now, let’s see how often I will update Memory Lane Monday.

Date: Either July or August 2012

Location: Lake Cuyamaca

After going on a short trip to Julian with my mother, on our way back we saw Lake Cuyamaca. Since the sun was still out and we had enough energy, we stopped by and checked it out. The day was just great. People were there and enjoying nature the best they could. I did not see a single soul on their phones, blasting music, technology was not “needed” as it is in the city (granted a few photographers had their equipment, but you know what I mean… I hope). Ducks, geese, egrets, crows and frogs inhabited the lake. The sky was a beautiful blue and the clouds were enormous yet calm giants sharing the sky. I took a few shots of the natives (animals) and took off knowing I had a few good shots. To my amazement, I did. Enjoy “Cuyamacan Clouds.”

Memory Lane Monday

I finally came through! It’s been a while. So here we go.

Date: July 12, 2012

Location: U.S. Grant Hotel, SD

Taken in the U.S. Grant Hotel on my search for an access to the rooftop, I took a look back down at the staircase I had conquered. It does not seem like it was much of a climb, but since there was no ventilation which made it a bit dreadful. No specific name to this shot, but I’ll call it “Downstairs”

On my way to work, I walked by a squab who has fallen out of its nest. It looked at me and I at it. It did not move or seemed startled. I was running a bit late so I wasn’t able to take a picture of it. So instead, I drew it and wrote a letter to it. And this is how it goes.

Precious Pigeon Squab,

We both share the same struggle. We want to grow and explore. Desiring to experience the world and what it offers, you prematurely spread your wings and took that plunge. Not realizing the tenderness of your plumes, you could not embrace the support of the wind to help you soar. The laws of gravity and your aerodynamics did not work in your favor. You hit the cold dry earth of the freeway underpass. Something so innocent and pure as you does not belong in this dirt and grime.

I too have hit rock bottom. But I assure you, this is just a bit of turbulence that will hit you during your flights in life. You will grow strong and overcome, but with time and a plethora of patience.

An empty coffee jar will be decorated with this doodle. I’m a bit scared to color it but like my cousin told me, “Never be scared to color. Fuck it, regret nothing.” Just wanted to take a picture of this before I mess it up.

This… This feeling, I cannot control. It strikes me during the most inconvenient times. It stumps me but gives me the desire to wander off, pass through cities I’ve never imagined existed. Meet people who would be glad to impulsively exit their worlds and explore. Taste unknown flavors, see what no one has seen, smell scents that show us we are alive. Hear the humming of a different tune, feel the atmosphere of a new environment. Share an unforgettable experience. One that would elevated us metaphysically. Help us forget about our current state of mind.

Then, return to our worlds, our gray-scaled worlds that drain our colors. Just to look back on that day, and smile.

As the night sky began to lighten up and the dawn welcomes the new day, the pensive artist continues being obscured. Thoughts of his uneventful existence becoming perpetual have overcast his simplest subjects of art. Attempting to focus on his next project, turmoil and destruction begin to stir.

The chirps of the waking birds cut the silence of the dawn, introducing the morning to the artist. “Good Morning,” the birds seem to greet and give him hope. The salute was swiftly ignored. Anthropomorphism. Scientifically speaking, he tells the Aves, “we do not share the same mental and social capacities.” The havoc within his mind morphs into a visual of a brash meddlesome mocking bird attacking a dark yet coy crow.

The sun begins to dilute the darkness. The alarm clock measures the time, 6 o’clock in the A.M. The artist reaches into the ice chest. Grasping a near freezing bottle of brew, he snaps out of his trance. Pops the cap off, takes a swig. The conflict subsides. The white flag has been waved. He has found freedom… but just for the moment.
